The mandala, in Eastern tradition, is the "sacred circle", representing microscosm and macrocosm, self and external reality, completeness/"oneness" with the universe.

In ancient pre-Vedic India (pre-2000BC) circular hollowed stone ornaments ("yoni") directly portrayed female sexual organs, vagina and womb.... a primitive fertility symbol. Later, Hindus venerated the divine in female form, associating the yoni mandala with Parvati, wife of Shiva, also called Ambika "little mother". In subsequent Buddhist tradition, Parvati became GUANYIN, goddess ("pusa") of mercy and protector of women and children.

The circle is also the basic external form of the famous yinyang symbol, both the overall external shape and the internal circles within both yin (female) and yang (male) halves of the symbol. As such it symbolizes both female-male contradictions and union.

Beyond this, the Chinese believe that jade is a jewel with magical qualities. "Cool" (indeed, quality jade is cool to the touch), it guarantees health to the wearer. It also brings fortune and peace.

This jade is "Yun Cui", highly prized jade from Yunnan province in China, close to Burma, purchased by the seller in Kunming, Yunnan.

The color is similar to jadeite, highly polished, lustrous, and translucent - a light green or a light green with darker green flecks. Each piece is unique. The outer stone is approximately 2 3/8 inch radius, attached to an attractive dark green and brown macrome strand with a small jade bead at the knot. The pendant is heavy, estimated at 4 oz. The necklace is adjustable from 19-27" in length.
